To celebrate Wolfburn’s 10th anniversary we have created a new collectors’ edition: the Anniversary Series. And since our first ever distillation took place on 25th January, each bottling will be released annually on Burns Night with 2023 being the first. Each edition will be a single cask.
Consisting of just 680 bottles, the 2023 single-cask release has been matured for over nine years in an ex-Oloroso sherry butt, no. 2013#691, laid down in October 2013, and which had previously been used for finishing, but never for full maturation. The result is an exceptionally sweet whisky with a magnificent depth of flavour, rich in colour, warmth and vibrance.
Tasting notes
ON THE NOSE – There’s heat, as expected with a whisky of this strength, but it’s soft with no burn. Beautiful sweet tones shine through with the promise of a very rich dram indeed.
ON THE PALATE – Only sherry-matured whiskies lend themselves to a creaminess like this. The sweetness and depth of flavour is an absolute joy. Autumn fruits mingle with golden syrup and treacle, while soft floral notes overlay the whole.
FINISH – The dram gets sweeter over time and unsurprisingly it’s the Oloroso tones that linger to the very end. A truly excellent dram, and a lovely testament to a decade of hard work by Wolfburn’s master distillers.
