Great single malt doesn't make itself. At Wolfburn Distillery, it's made by a small, dedicated team who live and breathe whisky. From the still room to the bottling hall, from the visitor centre to the warehouse, these are the people who turn Caithness water and malted barley into single malt Scotch whisky that ends up on shelves and in glasses around the world. No anonymous factory floor. Just people who care deeply about what comes out of the still, and happen to be rather good at it.
MEET THE PEOPLE BEHIND WOLFBURN DISTILLERY
SINGLE MALT WHISKY MADE BY A SMALL TEAM WITH A LOT OF CHARACTER.
"We’re aiming to make Wolfburn a very smooth, aromatic and pleasing whisky to drink. So far the results have been absolutely excellent."
INNES MACINTOSH
Production Manager
Innes is from just up the road, Caithness through and through. He joined Wolfburn Distillery in 2016, completed his distilling apprenticeship, and has steadily taken on more of the operation. He knows the stills, the warehouse, and the rhythms of production at Wolfburn as well as anyone. The kind of knowledge you can only get by turning up, year after year, and doing the work.
PAUL COLLINS
Head of Brand
Paul is behind everything you see before you've even opened a bottle — the brand, the packaging, the website, the tone of voice that makes Wolfburn sound like Wolfburn. Working in-house from the very beginning, he's made sure the quality of the single malt is matched by how it presents itself to the world. Which, it turns out, matters quite a lot.
MARK WESTMORLAND
Global Brand Ambassador
Mark grew up in Thurso, which means he's been breathing Caithness air his whole life — excellent preparation for a career introducing Wolfburn single malt to the world. Since joining the distillery in 2018, he's travelled to whisky shows, trade tastings, and industry events on multiple continents, putting a glass of Wolfburn in front of anyone who'll try it. Most of them try it more than once.
CHARLIE ROSS
Distillery Tour Manager
Charlie has been welcoming visitors to Wolfburn Distillery since 2014, making him one of the most experienced distillery tour guides in the north of Scotland. He's answered more questions about single malt whisky production, Caithness water sources, and copper pot stills than he can reasonably count — and he still answers them with a smile. Whether you're a whisky expert or trying your first dram, Charlie will make the trip worth it.
MATTHEW MILLER
Distiller
Matt completed his distilling apprenticeship at Wolfburn in spring 2024 and is already a central member of the production team. Mashing, distilling, warehousing, vatting, bottling — he does the full range of production work. The next generation of Caithness distillers is shaping up well.
MAX PAUL
Distiller
Max completed his three-year distilling apprenticeship at Wolfburn in 2021 and covers the full range of production work: mashing, distilling, warehousing, casking, and bottling. He's also the person you want when the equipment needs attention. Keeping a working distillery running is as much about mechanical competence as whisky knowledge. Max has both.
WILMA FALCONER
Tour Guide
Wilma joined Wolfburn in 2022 as visitor numbers to the Thurso distillery grew. Alongside Charlie, she leads tour groups around the distillery, and if you're planning a visit, there's a good chance she'll be your guide. Guests consistently rate her tours five stars, and she makes first-timers feel at ease and whisky enthusiasts feel right at home.
SHAUN PAUL
Bottling Hall Manager
Shaun joined Wolfburn in late 2022 and has moved quickly to make the bottling hall more efficient. With customer demand growing, pressure on the bottling operation has grown with it — and Shaun's response has been to drive real improvements to the line, including commissioning new semi-automated equipment. More orders going out correctly and faster. That's his doing.
