A Century of Remembrance displayed with a bottle of whisky, vintage photos, and red poppy flowers on a writing desk.

A Century of Remembrance.

The Wolfburn & Poppyscotland 12-Year-Old Centenary Release

Since 1926, the Scottish poppy—distinguished by its iconic four petals and no leaf—has stood as a quiet, enduring symbol of reflection and community support across Scotland.

What began a century ago with two ex-servicemen, a pair of scissors, and tissue paper has grown into a profound national institution. Today, Lady Haig's Poppy Factory in Edinburgh is powered by a team of 34 disabled ex-servicemen and women. Together, they manufacture two million poppies annually for the Scottish Poppy Appeal, alongside 25,000 wreaths for Legion Scotland and the Royal British Legion. Their dedicated work ensures that remembrance directly translates into lifelong care for veterans and their families.

To mark the centenary of poppy production in Scotland (1926–2026), Wolfburn Distillery in Thurso, Caithness is proud to launch our third official charity bottling in partnership with Poppyscotland: the Wolfburn Poppyscotland 12 Year Old Limited Edition Single Malt.

Marking 100 Years of Lady Haig’s Legacy

As an independent Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery, we believe in crafting spirits with purpose. Retailing at £69.99, this special commemorative whisky has been matured for 12 years, gently peated, and bottled at 46% ABV.

To honor 1926—the very first year of the charity and the opening of Lady Haig’s Factory—production is strictly limited to just 1,926 bottles. For every bottle sold, £15 goes directly to the charity, providing vital funding for housing, employment, and mental health services for serving and ex-serving personnel across Scotland.

As we approach Remembrance 2026, this limited edition single malt Scotch whisky offers a meaningful way to reflect on a century of sacrifice while providing a whisky gift that gives back to those who have served.

What Does Wolfburn 12 Year Old Taste Like?

This is the flagship Wolfburn 12 year old, a Highland single malt Scotch whisky, matured for twelve years in equal parts second-fill Oloroso sherry butts and ex-bourbon casks. It is very lightly peated at 5ppm and double distilled.

Nose: Sweet and floral, with a subtle trace of peat smoke.

Palate: Honey, burnt sugar, and soft spices, with sherry sweetness throughout.

Finish: Long, with dried fruit and caramel lingering to the end.

It is made with water from the Wolf burn and matured in dunnage warehouses a short walk from the sea. As Scotland's most northerly mainland Thurso distillery, as Caithness whisky goes, you can't get much further north.

A Remembrance Day Gift That Gives Back

Most Remembrance Day gifts are bought and forgotten. A run of 1,926 bottles tends not to be. This Poppyscotland limited edition whisky is a Remembrance whisky worth keeping, and a whisky gift that gives back. If you're looking for whisky gifts for veterans in your own family, or a limited edition whisky gift for anyone who would like their present to do some good, this is it.

It will also make a fine Christmas whisky gift, although at 1,926 bottles we wouldn't leave it until December. Order the Wolfburn Poppyscotland whisky while it is still available.

A Hundred Years On

Remembrance Sunday 2026 falls on 8 November, and Armistice Day 2026 on Wednesday 11 November. At eleven o'clock, Scotland will stop for two minutes, as it has for over a century. Most of the poppies worn in Scotland that morning will have been made by hand in Edinburgh, by people who served—the Armed Forces community, veterans and their families, and serving and ex-serving personnel.

We will remember them.
