Small Batch 177 Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been crafted from a combination of spirit matured for eight years in first-fill ex-bourbon hogsheads, married with spirit matured for seven years in first-fill Caribbean rum barrels. The flavour of the resultant whisky is a triumph, combining the smooth sophistication of bourbon maturation with unique sweetness and depth from the rum casks. A release of 4,900 bottles.

Bottled at natural colour and without chill-filtration, Small Batch 177 captures the very essence of Wolfburn’s northern spirit. With only 4,900 bottles available worldwide, this release is as rare as it is memorable – a whisky to be treasured.

Tasting notes

ON THE NOSE – Roasted figs and prunes meet candied ginger. There’s a terrific depth of flavour with plum sauce and toffee meeting marzipan and sultanas.

ON THE PALATE – Rum influence shines through with overtones of molasses ever-present. Layers of sweetness unfurl over time, with fruit and honey notes beautifully bound together by silky oak tannins.

FINISH – The finish is sticky, fruity, decadent and delicious.

Whisky production: Every bottle is monitored from distillation to its final filling and dispatch, ensuring exceptional consistency and quality of taste.

Non-chill filtered and a natural colour: Bottled without chill-filtration or artificial colouring, preserving the whisky’s true character.

Matured on site: Every cask is matured in Wolfburn’s traditional style dunnage warehouses set by the sea.

Traditional craftsmanship: Whisky made by hand, using age-old methods and modern precision.

Stream flowing through a natural landscape with grass and trees.

Natural Ingredients

Water: Drawn from the Wolf burn, rising from a spring a short distance away, crystal-clear and naturally filtered through Caithness stone.

Malt: Premium, sustainably sourced malt from UK growers. A non-GM and non-GN (Glycosidic Nitrile) variety.

Yeast: Single yeast strain, bottom-fermented to bring out rich, fruity tones.

Fermentation: Long and unhurried – promoting deep, layered flavours before distillation.

Maturation Casks

With a wood policy created to deliver depth of character and balance to every drop, our meticulously sourced casks are filled with either a non-peated or lightly-peated spirit, depending on the season.

1st fill Ex-bourbon barrels from Kentucky

1st and 2nd fill Oloroso sherry butts from Spain

1st fill rum casks sourced from the Caribbean

Custom re-coopered quarter casks from Islay Cooperage in Speyside.

Der Wolfburn 177 begeistert mit einer einzigartigen Kombination aus süßen und würzigen Noten. In der Nase entfalten sich Aromen von Schokolade, Orangenmarmelade und Ananas. Am Gaumen zeigt er sich komplex mit Noten von Mandarinen, Kräutern und jungem Holz. Der Abgang ist lang und angenehm, mit süßem Lakritz und einem Hauch von Lorbeer.
